MALLORY PARK le retour 30 & 31 octobre 2010
After a one year absence, the Sidecar Festival will return to Mallory
Park in 2010, bigger, better, faster and more fun than ever. Put a note
in your diary now to make sure you don’t mothball the outfit too soon
next year.
The weekend will consist of the final rounds of all the
main championships on Saturday, followed by a party to acclaim all the
winners and championship podium finishers.
Sunday will be a Sidecar Extravaganza, showcasing everything that
is great about three-wheeled motorsport. Without the pressure of
championship worries, everyone should be able to let their hair down
and really put on a spectacular display for the crowd and each other.
There
will be races for Formula 1, Formula 2, Formula 350, Classic, Vintage,
Scooters and Morgan 3-wheelers and a Challenge Race for the fastest 20
outfits regardless of class. Sunday will also feature a set of handicap
races and a two part race for teams of two sidecars (One modern &
one classic/vintage). There will also be an England vs Rest of the
World event with all proceeds going to Help for Heroes the charity for
injured servicemen and women.
The announcement has been made
early due to widespread disappointment at the absence of a Festival in
2009. John Ward – Mallory Park General Manager, acknowledged this in a
brief statement. “Yes, sidecars are incredibly popular with the general
public, but without firm commitment from an organiser to run and
support the event, it isn’t viable for the venue. The available circuit
dates get booked up at a very early stage and you can’t leave vital
weekends vacant that regular clients are trying to book in order to
finalise their own championship calendars.”
“Last year, with the
credit crunch biting, no one seemed to be prepared to put pen to paper
on the date and that was why we were forced to let the traditional slot
go. This year, Thundersport GB have come to an agreement with Mallory
Park Motorsport and put in place certain financial guarantees that
enable us to once again embrace and promote this popular event.”
This
is great news for both Mallory Park and Sidecar racing in general and
we can all look forward to a huge turnout of both outfits and
spectators.
Here at Thundersport GB we knew that the will was
there amongst sidecars, but there wasn’t a real understanding of the
commercial pressures on the venue to make ends meet and that was why we
made an early commitment to Mallory Park so that they could confidently
go forward in the full knowledge that the event was secure financially.
We are really looking forward to the 2010 season and the icing on the cake will be rounding it off with this great event.
